He was born in Surinam, but he has lived in The Netherlands since he was six years old. He did not have the money for a proper musical education, so he was forced to teach himself the difficult profession of a musician. The prizes CB Milton regularly won at talent competitions encouraged him to go on, and finally he had enough self-confidence to make a definitive move into a musical career. He learned the tricks of the trade working with the group Swinging Soul Machine, and became the youngest lead singer that the group had ever known in its twenty-five years of existence.
