Hundreds of arrests across Russia at Navalny memorials

At least 177 people have so far been detained across Russia at events in Navalny’s honour, according to the Ovd-Info rights group. His supporters have braved sub-zero temperatures and a heavy police presence to lay flowers in memory of the opposition leader. In a sign of nervousness at the strength of public feeling, prosecutors in Moscow issued a warning against “violating the law” with protests, noting a number of calls online “to take part in a mass rally in the centre of Moscow”.
