Muslims from all corners of the globe celebrated the beginning of Eid al-Adha on Sunday, including Muslims in Russia and Central Asia. The holiday, which is also known as the festival of sacrifice, is referred to as Kurban Bairam in the region. Worshippers in the Russian capital of Moscow gathered at the mosque in the city’s center to pray and listened to the chairman of Russia’s mufti council read out speeches by the Russian president and prime minister on the occasion of Eid.
