Malakai Bayoh: The 13-year-old opera sensation who won Britain’s heart
Malakai Bayoh, a 13-year-old student from London, has stunned the judges and the viewers with his angelic voice on Britain’s Got Talent 2,023. The talented treble sang a beautiful rendition of Puccini’s O mio babbino caro in the semi-finals, earning a standing ovation and a spot in the grand finale.
Malakai, who has already performed at the Royal Opera House and with classical singer Aled Jones, impressed Simon Cowell so much that he gave him his golden buzzer in the auditions. Malakai sang Pie Jesu for his first performance, which Simon called “incredible” and “amazing”.
In the semi-finals, Malakai chose a more challenging aria from Puccini’s opera Gianni Schicchi, which showcases his vocal range and expression. He delivered a flawless performance that moved the judges and the audience to tears. Simon praised him for his “divine” voice and said he was “a star in the making”.
