The Untold Story of Jeff Beck’s Role in The Yardbirds’ "Heart Full of Soul" (DD #15)

“Heart Full of Soul“ is a song by the Yardbirds, a British band who gained traction after filling in as the house band of the Crawdaddy Club. The song was written by teenager Graham Gouldman, who at the time was playing in Manchester bands. The song was a massive hit and was followed by “For Your Love“ which was also written by Gouldman. Jeff Beck joined the band as their new guitarist after Eric Clapton left the band abruptly. Beck’s virtuoso guitar skills were introduced to the world through this song. The song is about a man with a heart full of soul who wants his girl back, it’s a song of heartbreak, unrequited love, and longing. The guitar riff in the original demo was said to sound like a sitar, so the band’s manager Giorgio Gomelsky hired a sitar player and tabla player for the recording session.
