Zhou Yongkang sentenced to life in prison

China’s former senior official Zhou Yongkang has been sentenced to life imprisonment for accepting bribes, abusing power and deliberately disclosing state secrets. Tianjin Municipal No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court heard his case on May 22. As it involved disclosure of state secrets, Zhou’s trial was not open to the public. Zhou was convicted of taking bribes worth about 130 million yuan, or 21.3 million U.S. dollars.
