The U.N. Security Council expressed “strong concern“ Monday following Israel’s attacks that left several U.N. peacekeepers injured during its escalating military operations in southern Lebanon. These attacks have drawn widespread international condemnation. The council reaffirmed its support for the U.N. peacekeeping force, UNIFIL, which plays a key role in maintaining regional security. Despite Israeli requests to move peacekeepers 5 kilometers north, U.N. peacekeepers will remain in position. Israel’s intensified military campaign aims to drive Hezbollah forces further from the border, after clashes intensified following Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel. More than 1,400 people have been killed in Lebanon, and over 1.2 million displaced in the past month. The U.N. has called on all parties to respect international humanitarian law and protect civilians. #UNSC #UNPeacekeepers #UNIFIL #LebanonConflict #IsraelLebanonTensions #Hezbollah #ProtectCivilians #MiddleEastConflict #H
