Fish Focus - Glass Catfish

An unusual entry in the Fish Focus series - Glass Catfish. The Glass Catfish is an amazing fish that solves the issue of camouflage by being largely transparent. A discreet silvery area behind the head holds the internal organs and a fine skeletal structure helps the fish remain undetected. These highly-sociable fishes can be delicate and a shoal will do best in a planted aquarium with low nitrates and peaceful companions. Although a familiar species with a long history in the hobby, this fish has been repeatedly misidentified as the related Kryptopterus bicirrhis, then as K. minor before being recognised as K. vitreolus. Whatever you call them, these fascinating oddballs can make a superb addition to aquaria that provide their modest requirements.
