The Bizar Homeless Encampments of Oakland California

Link to my previous video about homeless encampments in Oakland: Below is the explanation I gave to my previous video. And it seems like not much has changed. Despite the Oakland authorities cleaning up several homeless encampments for the past few years, Google Street Views seems to show that these encampments just pop up elsewhere. Homeless people need shelter. Just pushing them from one street to the other is not a solution. Of course, the problem is complicated. And of course, there are many good people working for the Oakland authorities who do want to solve this. But as it seems their policies and programs are not very effective yet. Maybe the policitical priorities are not focussed enough on this issue. That’s hard to say from my perspective and information position. I don’t want to blame someone, that is more of a political thing. I just observe and see that the homeless problem in some places, such as Oakland California, is so much worse than in most other places in the Western World. Which is remarkable considering the fact that Oakland is located in one of the most wealthy regions in the entire world... So below is what I said 1,5 year ago about the homeless encampments in Oakland. And unfortunately, I think much of it still applies... Oakland, California, might just be one of he worst places in the USA. I took time to explore Oakland for little over an hour in Google Street View and I ran into no less than 20 locations where I spotted homeless encampments. No, I am not cheating you in this video! I am not showing you the same streets or the same area over and over again. My video shows a multitude of places in different districts of the city. And it’s bad... I know many of these images are from last year, but I have seen very recent videos on Youtube, suggesting that in several spots, it’s even worse now! Whatever happened to the Golden State in the land of opportunity? Some parts of Oakland can be considered true ghetto’s or even slums. I saw some places that totally resemble slums as we can see in the poorest countries in the world. But Oakland is in the USA. In fact, it is in California, the US state with the largest number of millionaires in the entire country. So many people in Oakland are now living in tents on the streets, and the problem seems to be getting worse and worse. The real question is why the authorities and the big corporate enterprises that are in charge in California, allow this to continue for years on end. I am afraid, they don’t care enough about it. In the USA, the gap between the rich and the poor has been growing and growing for the past 50 years. Leading to more and more people being forced out of their homes, onto the streets. And I don’t see any signs that this is going to change any time soon. Sad and unbelievable. When I grew up, I looked up to America. It was the richest country in the world. The country where anything was possible. This video clearly shows why to me, that image has completely shattered...
