“Stochastic“ - 30 min of Relaxing Generative Modular Ambient

Extended release available as a free download on Bandcamp! Here’s my first longer recording of a patch, which I was happy to film just as the sun was setting and the synth was slowly plunged into darkness. I only remembered after filming the screen on O_c appears to flicker badly, which I’ve managed to mostly fix in the video editor, hopefully it’s not too distracting. I found it very relaxing sitting there with the patch running watching the light fade. Thank you for stopping by and hope you enjoy =D Patch Notes: Recorded with Behringer UMC-202HD interface into DAW. Modules: Behringer CP1-a power supply Pittsburgh Micro-sequence Micro Ornament and Crime (Benisphere firmware) After Later Audio Baker (MI Peaks clone) After Later Audio Beehive (MI Plaits clone) After Later Audio Monsoon (MI Clouds clone) Instruo Ochd ALM Tangle Quartet The heart of the patch is Ornament and Crime running both ProDiv and ProbMeloD. The internal clock is set to 70 BPM with a random chance to be divided by either 2 or 4 each step. ProbDiv triggers Baker for every outputted trigger, and clocks Micro-sequence every time the clock is divided greater than 1. ProbMeloD provides V/Oct to Beehive. The main voice is Beehive in the Orange 1 mode, acting as a subtractive synth with a filter. Rather than being triggered directly, the filter (Timbre knob) is turned all the way down and is modulated by a randomised AD envelop from Baker (so the decay and amplitude have a small random variation each time the envelop fires). Monsoon is providing almost a second voice. In granular mode, with reversed grains the density and size are both quite high. Monsoon is then pitch shifting based on V/Oct coming from Micro-sequence, to give another almost plucky ’voice’. Ochd is reasonably slow and modulating all over the place. The attack and amount of randomness on Baker, morph subtly on Beehive, and size/texture on Monsoon. Lastly Monsoon’s outs are being attenuated by tangle quartet and recorded in stereo to DAW. There’s also a bit of EQ from TDR Nova in DAW to cut out some excessively low/high frequencies and tame some of the higher notes from Monsoon.
