One of my favorite songs is King David Kalakaua’s “E Nihi Ka Hele,“ written for Queen Kapiolani on the occasion of her trip to Queen Victoria’s Jubilee. You can find recorded versions by the Gabby Band and by Faith Ako. You can also find other performances of the song on YouTube by searching.
I created a simplified tab of my arrangement and taught this song as part of my slack key workshop at the 2010 San Francisco Aloha Festival. When I saw this footage from my Aloha Friday in Downtown Pleasant Hill on August 6, I realized that I could edit the video to supplement the tab and possibly help those trying to learn the song.
I’ve posted the tab on my web site where you can download it in various formats. The tab is a very simplified version of the song, and definitely not a note-for-note transcription of the performance in this video.
