In recent weeks, Ukraine has started using HARM missiles to take down Russian air defenses. Yet with only older Soviet-made aircraft in its air force, that shouldn’t be possible – the electronics are incompatible and to reengineer Western kit onto their planes would take years of work. So how was it done? Well, it turns out you can blame it on Top Gun – not Tom Cruise, but the real thing.
