T-54 OPTIC PORT WEAK SPOT OR NOT? | Armour Penetration Simulation Comparison | 88mm APCBC vs T-54

A comparison to the previous simulation which showed an 88mm armour piercing projectile impacting the turret cheek of the T-54 around the optic port: The model without the optic port has the exact same material properties, thickness, and curvature as the one with an optic port. The only difference is that edges of the turret cheek have been trimmed differently. This has no effect on the results so a direct comparison can still be made. From the results, it is evident that a cut-out weakens the armour around the hole, known as the edge-effect.
