Gas explosions at an industrial building in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi have sent a huge plume of fiery smoke rising over homes, killing at least three people and injuring hundreds.

A government spokesperson, Isaac Mwaura, said workers were refilling gas cylinders when the fire erupted, just before midnight in the Embakasi neighbourhood. The blaze engulfed a textile and garment warehouse and damaged several vehicles as well as commercial and residential properties, he said
