Spain, Ireland and Norway Recognise Palestine Statehood | Vantage with Palki Sharma The bid by prosecutors at the International Criminal Court to issue an arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu has exposed the divisions between Israel’s western allies. While the US and the UK have criticised the bid, France and Germany have supported the global court’s mandate. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has refused to rule out support for a Congressional effort to sanction officials at the ICC, a move that would undermine the court’s powers and duties. In 2002, the US had passed a law allowing the White House to “use all means necessary“ to free American leaders being prosecuted at the ICC. The law was widely called the “Hague Invasion Law“ and symbolised the conflict between Washington and the court.
