Zhang Jia Jie - Real Pandora

Zhang Jia Jie, in Hunan province, is an amazing canyon perhaps even more stunning than the one in Enshi. It’s recently gained a lot of attention as the site that inspired the floating mountains of Pandora, the alien world in the movie Avatar. One formation in particular, seen at 2:25, has since been renamed the “Avatar Hallelujah Mountain,“ formerly the “Heaven and Earth Pillar.“ The area is getting more popular but it is still an amazing site to see, and there is much more than just the mountains to marvel at. 1000 meters below, there are rivers and waterfalls to hike alongside, which I didn’t have time to visit.
