Nuremberg was written and recorded in a single day in Nuremberg, Germany as part of Hurd’s Echolocation project: a large-scale series of pieces capturing the spirit of different locations with music written about each one, made using locally-collected samples, field recordings, instruments, and sometimes even musicians. Nuremberg was inspired by the beauty of the city and an ancient grand piano he stumbled upon. Multi-tracked to an old tape recorder, he improvised a pointillistic, fluttering wall of sound which perfectly captured that moment in time.
George Hurd is an American electro-acoustic composer based in Berlin. His work focuses on electronic music, classical composition, and strange, beautiful world where they intersect. Best known for his chamber music collective The Hurd Ensemble, he has worked as a composer of music for concert, film, dance, podcast, and even VR. His work as a solo electronic performer/composer is substantial and often incorporates a deconstructed sonic palette extracted from his work with classical musicians.
