Hailing from Argentina, Who Else emerged from his country’s electronic music landscape in 2014. Eventually finding a place in the melodic house and techno underground, the Buenos Aires resident would rise into one of the genre’s trendsetters, with releases via Balance Music, Eleatics, Eklektisch and Get Physical, while earning play and support from Adriatique, Hernan Cattaneo, Hot Since 82, Solomun and Tale Of Us. Meanwhile, Italian artist Sassa has enjoyed similar success since first arriving in 2020. The Milan resident has been a recent favorite of Maceo Plex, Solomun and Tale of Us, while releases via Be Free Recordings and Lost On You sit prominently on his short but impressive discography. Now, combining their extensive forces for the first time, Who Else and Sassa debut on Movement Recordings with ’Who Are You’, alongside a remix from Paul Anthonee. EP opener ’Who Are You’ finds Who Else and Sassa enlisting the vocal talents of AM I RIGHT. Fuelled by rhythm, groove and a hugely memorable vocal; its key changing, swing-heavy basslines and infectious rhythms resonate on a transcendent level. Fluid and energetic across the first movement, it’s this main room momentum which provides a bridge into a well crafted break. Sitting comfortably in an emotive yet thought provoking space, vocal phrasing melts away into a calming vortex of melody and colour as the interlude evolves, eventually spearheading a thunderous drop and triumphant finale. Meanwhile, the companion piece ’Faster Ain’t Faster’ lands with an equally impressive display of craftsmanship, as the duo reaffirms their ability to tip a dance floor over the edge. Clever rhythmic co-actions and ethereal vocal fragments blanket pulsating grooves and euphoric synth swagger, making for a mood lifting excursion of the highest order. The lone interpretation of ’Who You Are’ is provided by Paul Anthonee who returns to the label for his tenth appearance. The Cyprus based producer and Astral Records AandR has found a comfortable home on Movement since making his debut in 2017. Beatfreak Recordings, Lost On You, Parquet, Steyoyoke and Suara have also played host to Paul’s cutting-edge sounds, while trendsetters such as Fideles and Mind Against continue to be supporters. Now presenting his first production of 2023, Paul delivers a powerful take on ’Who You Are’.
