Chinese Protest Capitalist Restoration

Hundreds of Chinese communist youths gathered for a huge demonstration at the Mao Zedong Square in the city of Shaoshan, Mao’s birthplace, on the eve of the communist leader’s birthday. With paroles echoing across the square, the protesters condemned the capitalist restoration policies of the ruling Communist Party of China, calling for a return to socialism and collectivization. The protests were part of broader celebrations of the 130th anniversary of Mao’s birth; over 111,000 people visited his hometown, Shaoshan, in Hunan province, marking a 713% increase from last year, according to local authorities, who organized various activities to commemorate the special event. Not long after the death of the Chinese communist leader Mao Zedong in 1976, his successor Deng Xiaoping rose to power and led China through a series of market-economy reforms, eliminating all opposition along the way. Deng’s policies earned him the reputation of “Architect of Modern China.” #ChinaProtests #MaoZedong #ChinaCommunism
