“Voyage to the Moon“ (fr. Le Voyage dans la Lune) is a French science fiction film of 1902, directed by Georges Méliès. A mute short-length farcical comedy that parodies the plots of Jules Verne’s novels From the Cannon to the Moon and HG Wells’s The First Men on the Moon. Staged by Melies according to his own script, on the scenery he created, in his private studio and by the efforts of his acting group. The film was an international success, especially in the United States of America. Its unusual length, non-standard sets, innovative special effects, and emphasis on storytelling have had a marked impact on other filmmakers and, ultimately, on the development of narrative cinema in general.
