Making DIY Canister Filter For Aquarium From Clear Glass Jar

When finding the right size aquarium filter for tank gets hard then it is time to get bit creative and make a DIY canister filter for aquarium yourself. For my 20L glass aquarium, I have built a canister filter from a clear glass jar. I won’t say that it is a cheap aquarium filter but this is right size filter that I am really after. I have used a low voltage Aquapro table-top pump with 200LPH flow rate. Intake and outlet of the canister filter are connected to a swivel 2-way coupler with 360 degree rotation. For mechanical filtration I have used a coarse and medium sponge. However, I strongly recommend all three types of mechanical filter foam for this purpose. Biological filtration of canister filter consists of ceramic rings, bio balls and bakki balls. This canister filter will be fully loaded with beneficial bacteria once cycled completely and would definitely provide great filtration to a small aquarium.
