WHO Director-General Dr Tedros end of 2023 message: Keeping the hope for health alive
2023 was a year of milestones and challenges in global health. COVID19 and mpox ended as global health emergencies, new vaccines were approved against deadly diseases, and other diseases were eliminated, from Benin to Bangladesh. These achievements were countered by horrific conflicts, in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, Ethiopia, Myanmar and more, while outbreaks of preventable diseases, including cholera, threatened millions.
Looking to 2024, after years of pandemic, countries are on the verge of a landmark agreement – a Pandemic Accord – to create a safer, healthier world.
Only by working together can we fulfil the promise of Health For All.
