Did you know that Morrison took the lyrics “Not To Touch The Earth” and “Not To See The Sun” from the table of contents from Sir James Frazer’s “Balder The Beautiful”, part of his unabridged work, THE GOLDEN BOUGH – A STUDY OF MAGIC AND RELIGION? This track is filled with many literary references, and the lyrics are excerpts from Jim’s poem, THE CELEBRATION OF THE LIZARD. The poem was meant to take up the first side of their album WAITING FOR THE SUN, but “Not To Touch The Earth” was the only part that made the cut. However, the entire 133-line poem was included on the album sleeve.
