What is Fatty liver?
Fatty liver, also known as hepatic steatosis, is a condition in which excess fat accumulates in the liver. It’s a common condition and can be categorized into two main types:
1. Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD): This is the most common form of fatty liver and occurs in people who don’t consume excessive amounts of alcohol. NAFLD often develops in individuals who have risk factors like obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, high cholesterol, or metabolic syndrome. It can range from simple fatty liver, which typically doesn’t cause symptoms, to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), a more severe form that can lead to liver inflammation and eventually progress to liver fibrosis (scarring) or cirrhosis.
