Ukraine war preparations: US Deploys Aircraft Carriers to European seas

The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CV 75) conducts flight operations in the Mediterranean Sea in support of Neptune Strike. Neptune Strike highlights NATO’s ability to integrate the high-end maritime capabilities of a carrier strike group to ensure high operational readiness across the Alliance and the defense and protection of all Allies. The Truman Carrier Strike Group first entered the Mediterranean Sea in December 2021. After Russia invaded Ukraine and the NATO Allies moved to strengthen their defensive posture, the carriers began launching fighters to join vigilance patrols over the Alliance area in eastern Europe. The Truman F/A-18 Hornet has proven to be an integral part of securing Allied airspace.
