First Greek animated feature (1942-1945)

Titled “Ο Ντούτσε αφηγείται“ (Il Duce narrates), this anti-war short animated film began in the greek island of Sifnos during the italian fascist occupation in 1942. One can see what a daring move that must have been. The animator was Stamatis Polenakis. He made the drafts in Sifnos and after Greece’s liberation he moved in 1945 in Athens. There, together with Papadoukas and Merevidis, the filming process began. The film then was virtually buried till it was discovered in 1980. For a country like Gr
