Living in Moscow: The Russian Language

The Russian language appears mystical and exotic to the western eye and ear. The Cyrillic alphabet dates back to the ninth century and is used through out Russia. Although at first glances the language resembles a secret code, there are some similarities to the traditional alphabet as some letters are written and pronounced as in English. To improve your experience in Russia it will be beneficial to enroll on a language course. Enjoy the encouragement and smiles of your neighbors and friends as you try out your new found language skills. If you don’t get as far as a language course, bear in mind that all signs, all roads names, practically everything you see, will be written in Cyrillic so getting to grips with the alphabet is key.
