Sweepers At Ascot (1962)

Soho, London. Road sweepers are rewarded for their hard work - the owner of a tailors on their patch takes them to Ascot for the day. Various shots of three road sweepers at work. C/U of the three looking at a newspaper report about Ascot. C/U of top hats and tails in the tailor’s window. The road sweepers enter the tailors shop. C/U of a top hat being removed from its stand. M/S of the tailors coming out of the shop dressed in top hats and tails. They discard their brushes and get into a Rolls Royce. Various C/Us of the road sweepers and tailor, Lou Young inside the Rolls. Long panning shot of crowds at Ascot. The road sweepers get out of the Rolls and enter an enclosure - two are conspicuously the only black men at Ascot. Various shots of the road sweepers eating fine food and sipping champagne - the narrator suggests it’s better than pie, beans and mild and bitter. Lou is seen popping the cork on a bottle of Moet.
