’Myanmar Military Coup: Protests Swell as Vigil Held for Demonstrators Killed in Crackdown’
Demonstrators in Myanmar are continuing to defy a brutal military crackdown against them, returning to the streets and erecting barricades to protest the military coup that overthrew the government.
Despite increased violence used against them by security forces and a recent spike in deaths following clashes with the authorities, protesters gathered in cities across the country.
They are calling for the restoration of democracy and the release of Aung San Suu Kyi and other elected officials from detention.
Police and military forces attempted to repel them with tear gas, stun grenades and rubber bullets, but protesters remain undeterred.
On Saturday night, a vigil was held in Yangon to remember those killed in the crackdown.
