Happy Swiss national day! Today we’re on a picturesque line along the lake of Thun, between Spiez and Interlaken. Interlaken is a popular tourist destination in Switzerland. The name literally means “between the lakes“ as it is situated between the lake of Thun and the Brienz lake. The normal gauge network ends there and narrow gauge railways continue on to various locations in the alps. We’ve been on this line before, on a longer journey from Vallorbe to Interlaken: Since then, the 3 stations between Interlaken and Spiez have unfortunately been closed to passenger traffic and are served by buses instead.
