NATO Secretary General visits NATO partners in the South Caucasus

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has just concluded a three-day visit to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia. During his tour, he met with leaders and ministers from each country and also visited the NATO Liaison Office in Georgia. The Secretary General affirmed NATO’s commitment to strengthening Allied relationships with partner countries and emphasised the importance of the stability in the region for Euro-Atlantic security. The Secretary General also encouraged Armenia and Azerbaijan to take courageous steps to achieve enduring peace after years of conflict. In Azerbaijan, Mr Stoltenberg highlighted successful cooperation on counter-terrorism and cyber security through NATO’s Science for Peace and Security programme. The Secretary General also praised the steps Georgia has taken to strengthen its democracy. In Armenia he commended their role as a key partner in NATO’s KFOR peacekeeping mission, helping to ensure a safe and secure environment for all communities in Kosovo.
