During World War 2, she bravely supported the French Resistance in France shortly after the Allied D-Day landings at Normandy. During her second deployment to France she was sadly captured and later executed while imprisoned at Ravensbruck concentration camp along with two other female SOE agents. Violette and her husband, Étienne Szabo, became the most decorated married couple of the Second World War, both being awarded medals posthumously for their bravery.
