Turkey: Moment suicide bomber launches attack near Ankara parliament

Two terrorists carried out a bomb attack near Turkey’s parliament on Sunday morning, the country’s government said, adding one of them died in the explosion and the other was “neutralised” by authorities. ‌A blast was heard followed by gunfire in the Turkish capital of Ankara at around 9:30 on Sunday morning, with initial reports suggesting that a terrorist attack had targeted the interior ministry. The explosive device was detonated just hours before parliament was set to reconvene after its summer recess. Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan was expected to attend the opening.‌ Ali Yerlikaya, Ankara’s interior minister, said on Twitter: “At around 9:30 [06:30 GMT], two terrorists who came with a light commercial vehicle in front of the entrance gate of the General Directorate of Security of our Ministry of Internal Affairs, carried out a bomb attack.” “One of the terrorists blew himself up and the other terrorist was neutralised,” he added.
