Budapest is the capital and at the same time the largest city in Hungary. Out of the nearly 10 million population of this small state, almost 1.8 million people live in the capital. Budapest is the 8th most populous city in the European Union. The modern metropolis – the leading political, economic and cultural center of the country-is located on the banks of the gray-haired Danube and covers an area of thousand km2.
