This is a Soviet documentary movie released on 1989 about the Spitak earthquake disaster. (See this video for striking interviews with the survivors and authorities, some of which appear in this documentary: The earthquake struck northern Armenia on December 7, 1988. According to the official figures, 25 thousand people were killed, more than twice injured and people lost their homes. In total, 21 cities and districts were affected by the earthquake, as well as 350 villages, 58 of which were completely destroyed. Tremors up to seven points on the Richter scale lasted 30 seconds and destroyed Spitak, Leninakan (now Gyumri), Kirovakan (now Vanadzor), and Spitak. The disaster struck the north of the republic, covering about 40% of its territory, tremors were felt in Yerevan and Tbilisi.
