10 Sikh Supermen

The 10 Sikh Supermen and their commanding officer Lieutenant John ’Jackie’ Smyth took on a mission that seemed destined to fail. Initially Smyth refused to go, but when he was given the order every single man under his command volunteered for the task. Their terrifying ordeal was to carry supplies across 250 yards of no man’s land. With men trapped in a forward trench many of the 10 Sikh Supermen gave the ultimate sacrifice to keep the trench under British control. It was an incredible act of bravery for which Lieutenant John Smyth would be awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions. When talking about that day he said “What kept me going was the courage of my men... I gave them leadership, and they gave me support.
