African nations plan to form confederation amid confrontation with ECOWAS

The three West African states of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger are mulling the idea of forming a confederation. The move came amid their current confrontation with the regional ECOWAS bloc of West African nations. In January, the three countries formally quit the ECOWAS organization.
