Female albatross BOK takes wing as the sun sets over the Northern Royal Albatross breeding colony in New Zealand’s Pukekura/Taiaroa Head. Her mate (named WYL) arrived earlier to relieve her from duties at the nest. Here, she takes advantage of the blustering winds to head out to sea to find food for their chick on February 8. This Northern Royal Albatross pair have been caring for their single chick at the scenic Top Flat Track nest site since it hatched on January 31. RoyalCam was set up in January 2016 by the Department of Conservation and the Cornell Lab has been collaborating with DOC since 2019 to bring the cam to life.
