Typhoon Len has hit and the rivers are leaving their beds! Approaching from the Pacific Ocean, Typhoon Lan made landfall on the southern tip of Wakayama Prefecture. The typhoon was blowing at 150 km/h (93 mph). The storm was moving northwest across the western part of the main island of Honshu at about 15 km/h (9 mph). The typhoon hit central and western Japan with heavy rains and strong winds. Rushing rivers are about to burst their banks. The floors of houses and shops were damaged by water. Strong winds knocked down trees and electrical poles. Nearly 800 flights have been canceled. Tens of thousands of homes have lost power.
