The 3rd Century Crisis and Beyond at Komana by Burcu Erciyas Middle East Technical University

Komana is a Hellenistic and Roman sanctuary site near Tokat in north-central Anatolia. Excavations at Komana have been continuing since 2009. So far, a wide chronological span of around 5000 years has been revealed at the site from the Late Chalcolithic through the Ottoman period. During the 2021 and 2022 field seasons some significant discoveries for the Roman period settlement at the site were made. The excavations at the so-called Sword Building presented military equipment (swords, dagger, axe), clothing, a coin hoard and other personal belongings of a soldier suggesting military presence at the site. In this talk, these levels and the Roman period at the site will be presented.
