Root pruning a Fig tree with a DULL machete

No reciprocating saw? Practice your ninja skills on a root ball. This is not the safest, nor the most efficient way, but it was what I had on-hand. This particular tree rewarded me with over 25 figs the season following this butchering! Root pruning allows you to use the same size container indefinitely. Every winter, I store 20 fig trees in my garage to prevent cold winter temps from killing them. In order to save space while still being able to have different varieties, I have to compromise. Always remember to prune the top growth after root pruning to provide balance to the tree, otherwise you will not get very much growth the following season. Are you a Fig Fanatic?
