Station Home (1960)

M/S of a man, Harold Dawkins, coming out of the station with a stool; he climbs onto it to replace a light bulb and clean the the station lamp. Commentator tells us that this station at Nunnington in Yorkshire is home to Harold and his wife Helen. “The explanation is that this 80 year old station was closed down by British Railways in 1954 and bought by the Dawkins when they recently decided to retire. Today they have one of Britain’s most unusual homes, with superb views of the Ryedale countryside“. M/S of the station house as a steam train comes along the track in front of it; the engine is going backwards and pulls several goods trucks. It stops at the house, Harold gives the driver a letter and the train pulls out. We are told the nearest neighbour lives over a mile and a half away so the Dawkins look forward to the daily goods train visits.
