Unusual and Strange Musical Instruments Compilation Part 3

Have a listen to some of the unusual instruments that I came across lately. Here´s some info to each instrument, followed by a link to the original video. #1 The khene is a Lao mouth organ whose pipes, which are usually made of bamboo, are connected with a small, hollowed-out hardwood reservoir into which air is blown. #2 The hurdy-gurdy is a stringed instrument that produces sound by a hand crank-turned, rosined wheel rubbing against the strings. The wheel functions much like a violin bow, and single notes played on the instrument sound similar to those of a violin. Source unknown #3 Hurdy-gurdy amplified #4 The Yaybahar is played similar to orchestral string instruments by hitting or sliding a wooden bow along the two long strings suspended in the center of two drum heads, by hitting the drums, or by sliding the bow up at the top of the instrument. It is inspired by several different instruments, including the Turkish ney, African thunder drum and Australian didgeridoo and represents both Western and Eastern influences in its design and sound. #5 The keyboard glockenspiel, or organ glockenspiel (glockenspiel = concert bells) is an instrument consisting of a glockenspiel operated by a piano keyboard. #6 The singing Tesla coil, sometimes called a zeusaphone, thoramin or musical lightning, is a form of plasma speaker. It is a variety of a solid state Tesla coil that has been modified to produce musical tones by modulating its spark output. The resulting pitch is a low fidelity square wave like sound reminiscent of an analog synthesizer.
