Taken from the album ’False Idols’ released on False Idols in association with !K7 Records.
Tricky is back. Back with a new album “False Idols“.
The first single is ’Does It’, sets the tone. It’s a brooding throb of muscular bass, moody handclaps and Tricky’s dystopian lyrics. It’s ominous, a dark vision of the world that asks why people aren’t more angry about the status quo. “People will either get it or not get it,“ says Tricky. “It’s meant to be felt as well as heard - it’s primal. Whether people get it or not, the fact is, compared to the over-produced, over marketed stuff out there, it’s a wake-up call.“
’Does It’ is accompanied by a hard-hitting video, which debuted on the Rolling Stone website in March. The imagery is of social unrest, crowds clashing with the police and a troubled Tricky murmuring his lines. It’s clearly a political statement. As is the name of his record label, like the album called False Idols. ’Does It’ is the first release.
It’s a new start for Tricky. Not that he cares if it works, or if people like it. “I don’t give a fuck,“ he says. “This new album I’ll stand behind every track. I don’t care whether people like it. I’m doing what I want to do, which is what I did with my first record. That’s what made me who I was in the beginning. If people don’t like it, it don’t matter to me because I’m back where I was.“
Back where he belongs.
