Hazel Basket Weaving From Start to Finish

Local basketweaver Mircea Cordoș from Breb, Maramureș, had turned to hazel basket weaving in 1985, after an unfortunate accident at the farriery that had left him crippled. His loving wife, Mărioara, climbs the mountain to fetch hazel rods, which he then splits and shaves into ribs for basket weaving. The complete process of #basketweaving a two-hands tall slat pack basket took two days, including harvesting and preparation of the materials needed. The family was very welcoming and eager to give basket weaving lessons.
