Hey guys! The time has come to return to arguably one of the best modern VGM soundtracks, Shovel Knight! After doing Strike the Earth a while back, I got a handful of requests for other themes from the game; all of which are amazing. However, this one in particular stood out as something I can jam on extra hard. I knew immediately this was going to be my next SK cover. My mission statement going into the arrangement was to keep the groove of the original 100% intact (because DAMN is there a groove on this piece) but I wanted to do my best to make it as melodic and crushing of a metal song as I could. This resulted in me spending about 10x as long in the mixing and mastering process trying to craft some new tones to make this piece just destroy as hard as it can. Arrangement wise, I kept the rhythms super basic but I took some nods of acknowledgement to Jake Kaufman by maintaining the super shreddy transition licks that are all over the SK soundtrack. Those absolutely had to remain in this piece. The leads I tried super hard to make it even crazier but with how crazy the original already is, I just harmonized a few sections and threw in some licks of my own plus a solo. Besides that, we’re being super faithful to the amazing melodies that Kaufman has crafted. I had a blast putting this together and I’m super happy with how it turned out. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it! Thanks for watching! ➤ The original “An Underlying Problem (The Lost City)“ theme from the game “Shovel Knight“ was composed by Jake Kaufman and Manami Matsumae ➤ Thank you to GameFace for the game footage!
