Anti Crack Campaign “Don’t Do It”(1986, NBC) featuring Melle Mel and Van Silk

“Don’t do it” was an anti-crack campaign that was produced for NBC in New York to combat the drug addiction that plagued the popular neighborhoods of the city. The rappers Van Silk and Melle Mel (of the Group Grand Master Flash and the Furious five) proposed a series of commercials for television and recruited Sebastian Domínguez (director and producer of Documentales El Dorado) to write, direct and record it on the streets of the Bronx. The spots toured the world and it was the first rap ad to appear on television worldwide. In 1986, Sebastian Domínguez won an Emmy for this spot, being the first Chilean in history to achieve this award in a Non-fiction category on North American television.
