What a round 1 clash we had on our hands at the FIDE Candidates 2024. We saw the all-American clash between two of the favourites of the event - Fabiano Caruana and Hikaru Nakamura. Fabi’s rating of 2803 and Nakamura’s rating of 2789 make them world no.2 and 3 respectively. When Caruana played e4, Hikaru responded with a lesser known Sicilian.
