Wolf pup hunting in summer in northern Minnesota

This Lightfoot pup is well on its way to becoming quite the hunter! In many ways, this footage was the result of quite a bit of work and a lucky guess! Long story short, this camera was on the edge of a large beaver meadow that we call “Summertime Dream” (named after a Gordon Lightfoot tune because this is, after all, the Lightfoot Pack!). Back in May, we tried to anticipate where the pack might have rendezvous sites later in the summer and then we put out cameras at those locations hoping, that at some point, we would have cameras in the middle of a rendezvous site. We got lucky that this actually worked—the pack used Summertime Dream as a rendezvous site from late July to mid August! The reason this was a lot of work was because beaver meadows are full of blowing grass and vegetation, which cause the cameras to trigger and fill up with hundreds of videos of blowing vegetation (and drain the batteries in the process). All this to say, we had to visit the cameras at this site every few weeks for several months to swap batteries and SD cards as well as knock down the grass in front of the cameras all in the hope that it would be worth it. And luckily it was! Learn more about the Voyageurs Wolf Project: Website: Facebook: Instagram:
