Collaborative competition: Todd Conrad at TEDxMuskegon

Todd Conrad, a high school English teacher and football coach at Mona Shores High School, discusses his thoughts on hyper competition in the American society during his talk at TEDxMuskegon. Conrad believes the American culture generally accepts competitiveness as an important cultural ethic. The concept drives our economy and our culture. Is it possible, though, that our collective obsession with being “The Best“ could be at the root of larger social problems or even mental illness? Conrad suggests that collaborative competition be a healthier approach. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
